Laser Therapy

Laser therapy referrals for Yorkshire and the North East

Laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, is a non-invasive treatment that uses light to stimulate the body's natural healing process.

In dogs, it's used to manage pain, reduce inflammation and promote healing, often for musculoskeletal issues like arthritis, but also for wounds and post-surgical recovery.

How it works

Laser therapy uses a specific wavelength of light, typically in the visible red to infrared spectrum, to interact with the dog's tissues.

The light stimulates cells, which then respond by increasing their metabolism and releasing beneficial substances.

Patients can see increased blood flow to the area, with associated pain relief and reduced inflammation. We also see the therapy promote tissue repair and speed up the healing process.

Conditions it can treat

Musculoskeletal issues: Arthritis, soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains and back disc problems.

Wounds: Promotes healing and reduces inflammation.

Post-surgical recovery: Helps with pain management, incision healing and faster recovery from surgeries like TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy).

Other conditions: Ear infections, fractures and more.

The treatment process

The procedure is typically painless and non-invasive.

Sessions usually last between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on the area and condition being treated. Both the dog and the person administering the treatment must wear protective eyewear during the session.

Dogs can usually resume their normal activities immediately after a session.
