We are a Zero Pain Practice

We are proud to be an accredited Zero Pain Practice, recognising our commitment to ensuring pets in our care are happy, healthy and free from any unnecessary pain.

Many species of animal that we keep as pets have evolved to be very good at hiding pain. This can make it difficult for owners, and sometimes our team, to recognise when a pet is suffering.

That’s why we’ve focused on making pain assessment and management central to what we do in our practice.

We’ve adopted new techniques and ensured the team receive the most up to date training, increasing our knowledge around our choice of painkillers, the options we have for managing chronic pain conditions and how we diagnose and treat arthritis.

We provide a holistic approach to managing arthritis which includes using joint injections such as steroids, anti inflammatories, stem cells and platelet rich plasma (PRP) as well as medical treatments and rehab programmes such as physiotherapy, laser and acupuncture.

During surgeries, we commonly use nerve blocks, often ultrasound-guided to manage pain, and use continuous infusions directly into the veins to provide fast acting pain relief.

We have up to date pain management protocols for routine surgeries such as neutering. As part of our accreditation we continually audit our cases, ensuring we are providing the best level of care and adapt protocols as we see fit to each patient.

Being independent means we can invest in our service and grow our practice to deliver the best results for our clients, while continuing to offer fantastic value for money – and becoming one of the few Zero Pain veterinary practices in the country is just another way in which we’re putting this in place.

What is a Zero Pain Practice?

The Zero Pain accreditation was established by two leading anaesthesia specialists based in the south of England.

As per the Zero Pain team, the accreditation is “open to all veterinary practices worldwide” who “are committing to practise to the highest standards of pain management according to current guidelines”.

The "scheme enables a practice to showcase their efforts towards excellence in pain management and will set them apart as a practice working to the highest standards".

There is a constant process of learning and improvement to maintain the accreditation and to prove that our practice is working "to the highest standards". It’s a difficult accreditation to get and to keep – and we’re very proud to be making a difference for our patients in this way.
