Internal Medicine

Internal medicine utilises a wide range of techniques and equipment to assist in reaching a diagnosis, including:

  • Extensive in-house laboratory facilities at Bishopton Vets
  • Samples sent to external laboratories
  • Advanced ultrasound including ultrasound guided aspirates and biopsy sample collection
  • Endoscopy: gastro-duodenoscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy including relevant sample collection

Internal medicine also involves coordination with our other overlapping disciplines of chemotherapy, dermatology, cardiology and surgery to ensure that a holistic approach is provided and treatment options are available for each animal.

We aim to provide a practical approach to each case, tailoring the investigations to the individual patient. We also strive to keep pet owners involved at each stage and to be flexible to allow as much information as needed to be obtained to facilitate informed decision making and ensure optimum patient care, whilst keeping treatment options affordable.
