Facilities
Consultations
Are by appointment, to reduce waiting times and stress to our patients. Poorly patients are always seen on the same day and we do not have any waiting lists for procedures. Surgery times are...
Dispensary
Our progressive dispensary is stocked with a wide range of the most appropriate and effective medications.
Laboratory
We have a well equipped in-house lab unit that enables us to give a full range of haematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, cystology and parasitology services.
Theatre
Operations are performed under sterile conditions in theatre, with full monitoring during the operation and recovery period. Modern anaesthetics are very safe, but we offer blood tests before surgery to detect any problems which may increase the anaesthetic risk.
Specialist Feline Unit for Hyperthyroid Cats
In older cats, hyperthyroidism (an over-active thyroid gland) is the commonest disorder of the endocrine (hormone) system. Symptoms can include excessive hunger, weight loss, a poor coat, an excessive heart rate, behavioural changes and a swelling in the neck. Left untreated, the cat’s life span is likely to be shortened.
The diagnosis is confirmed using a blood test, which shows how much thyroid hormone is present.
Up until now treatment has involved either giving tablets for life, or operating, to remove the affected gland. On March 11th , Claire King (of Emmerdale fame), opened our new Specialist Unit, which can treat this condition with a success rate of 94-97% - and without tablets or surgery.
Because the nearest places where this treatment can be given are the Universities of Glasgow, Bristol and London, or the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, this facility is available to cats from across the Midlands and Northern regions.
