Students

As part of our on-going commitment to the UK pig industry and the future veterinary profession, we have set up a specific Pig EMS Programme to help develop veterinary students with an interest in this area and allow them an insight into the way the profession operates within such a specialist industry. It is impossible to convey this through lectures and the packed timetable of the Veterinary Schools, so allow us to introduce you to our World!

The purpose of the programme is to allow a full immersion into on farm visits, with provision made for differing health statuses, along with follow up seminars, post mortem work, sample submissions and slaughter checks. Placements would be for two consecutive weeks and can be taken at any point during the calendar year after prior consultation with us.

What do we expect from you? This is not ‘usual’ EMS and hence we would expect a certain drive and interest towards the pig industry, along with your commitment to gaining as much as you can from the placement – EMS is certainly a two way process and we expect to be questioned as much as you would be!

Places are limited on the Programme and demand for previous years has been high. We now operate an annual competition for the Programme that opens in September for placements in the following calendar year – the entry requirements will be posted here and we wish all applicants the best of luck with attaining a place. If you have any questions with regards our Pig EMS Programme, please do get in touch.

We are currently running Internship programmes within our team, details of which are published on our careers page as and when they become available. If you are looking for an EMS Pig Programme placement for 2018, please email pigs@bishoptonvets.co.uk
